To bring transparency on social media advertising standards council of India has released draft guidelines for the “influence advertising”.

On digital media ASCI noted that influence advertising has become mainstream so much such of what  influences post is promotional and a lot of it’s not identified intrinsically such non disclosure may be a disservice to consumer and is misleading.

Also they cannot tweak the disclosure label and will to Adhere to only permitted leaving this rule is applicable for all social media platform including YouTube Facebook, twitter, Instagram and Snapchat blocks and other video platform most sorts of paid content advertisement online must be highlighted clearly show that that the audience can clearly understand that it’s a sponsored content.

The guidelines for influencer advertising on digital media are going to be available for all stakeholders including industries digital influencer also as consumer for feedback till March 8 2021 based on the feedback and put the ultimate final  guidelines are going to be issued by ASCI by 31st March 2021.

As for videos the new guideline makes it clear that within the case of video not accompanied by a text post the disposal label should be superimposed in the manner that’s easily visible to the viewer.

“for video that last 15 second or lesser the disclosure label must stay for a minimum of 2 seconds. for video longer than 15 second but less than 2 minute the disclosure label stays for 1/3 of the length of the video.

for videos which are 2 minutes or longer the disclosure label must stay for the whole duration of the section during which the promoted brand or its feature benefit acceptor are mentioned.

Live stream the disclosure label should be placed periodically for five second at the top of each minutes in order that users who see a part of stream can see the disclosure added ASCI.

ASCI also released a reckoner for influencers for various platforms.

-Instagram: Disclosure label to be included within the title above the photo/beginning
of the text that
shows. If only the image is seen, the image itself must include the label

-Facebook: include the disclosure label within the title of the entry or post if only the image / video is seen the image / video itself must include the label eg FB story

-Twitter: include the disclosure lady label or tag at the start of the body of the message as a tag

-Pinterest: include the disclosure label at the start of the message

-YouTube and other video platform :include the label within the title / description of the post

-Vlog: overlay within the disclosure label while talking about the merchandise or service

-Snapchat: include the disclosure label within the body of the message within the beginning as a tag blog include the disclosure label within the title of the post

-Blog: Include the disclosure label in the title of the of the post
